The Kuwait Osteoporosis Society (KOPS) celebrated the World Osteoporosis Day 2017 with its usual public educational event which now been conducting it since 2014. This year’s event took place in the Avenues Mall on Saturday, October 21, 2017. The event was attended and sponsored by the Honorary President of KOPS, Sheikha Dr. Souad Mohammad Al-Sabah and covered by local media. The event was also sponsored by the Avenues Mall, Amgen pharmaceuticals, Lilly pharmaceuticals and the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS).
The event included several services dedicated to increase the knowledge and awareness of osteoporosis among the people in Kuwait in all age groups. The event included services from different specialties, physicians provided consultations and reviewing the known risk factors of osteoporosis and applying FRAX Fracture Risk Assessment Tool, dieticians provided advices of healthy lifestyle, physical therapists provided advices on balance and gait stabilities to avoid falls and heel bone mineral density measurement was also provided to classify risk of fractures in high risk individuals.
Around the event location, there was artwork and infographics that showed crucial information about osteoporosis for the public and gathered a lot of shoppers of the mall around it and attended the activities designed in the event. We in KOPS appreciate the attendance of the public to promote education about osteoporosis.
